Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Small-scale businesses play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of Nigeria, particularly in rural areas like Wamakko Local Government, Sokoto State. These businesses face several challenges, including limited access to capital, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of information on business opportunities and markets. Print media, through newspapers and magazines, can significantly contribute to the growth of these businesses by providing information on government policies, business opportunities, and market trends. Additionally, the media can serve as a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services, creating visibility for their businesses.
